  • NESTING SILHOUETTE

I really have no idea what kind of birds these are. but I found them in Portugal and I had to trespass into a stalled condo project, schlepping my big lens and tripod past the plywood and through the protruding re-bar, only to find that I was shooting directly into the sun. What to do? Create a silhouette.

  • HEXAGON POOL-GOLAN HEIGHTS, ISRAEL

The Hexagon Pool (Hebrew: בריכת המשושים‎) (Breichat HaMeshushim) is a natural pool in the Meshushim Reserve, part of the Yehudiya Forest Nature Reserve, in central Golan Heights. The pool, at the bottom of a canyon, is named in reference to the shape of the hexagonal basalt pillars that make up its walls. This geological formation was created by the slow cooling of layers of lava floes over a long period. When the lava solidified and cooled, it was split into polygonal shapes due to its contraction.

  • COLWILL FARM IN THE SNOW

This photograph of the Colwill Farm on Greenspring Avenue in Lutherville Maryland is the result of my continuing effort to capture this amazing scene in the best light. This time it was in the rain and snow. The only colour in the scene was (duh) the red barns.

  • MY PHOTO ASSISTANT

Please notice my big camera resting on top of my backpack. Along with my 600mm telephoto, waiting for a camera body to attach to. Fortunately I had that body and a small lens around my neck, so that i could capture this and several other images of my adolescent bear friend and assistant.

  • A DAY IN THE PARK

The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is an arboretum located in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale sections of Boston, Massachusetts. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and is the second largest "link" in the Emerald Necklace. This photograph is an HDR thus allowing the camera to capture all of the vibrance that was there.

  • PARIS BRIDGE

This is a bridge over the Seine located near the Champs-Elysees. The photograph was taken on a rainy gloomy day but the HDR treatment of the image brought out the subtleties of the grey tones.

  • WHO!

    backyard friend :)

  • VENICE GRAND CANAL AT DUSK

VENICE GRAND CANAL AT DUSK was photographed by David H Brooks, on a recent (May 30, 2012) trip to Venice, Italy. The photograph highlights the Accademia Vaporetto Stop and a recently departed vaporetto. In order to capture the true colours of the sunset and the buildings in the same image, seven different exposures were taken and the HDR (High Dynamic Range) post-processing method was employed. The equipment used included a Nikon D4 camera with a 24 to 70 mm f2.8 Nikkor lens, hand-held. The exposures ranged from 1/10th to 1/800th of a second at f 4.0 and ISO 2000. —DavidHBrooks+Photography

  • BURANO SIDE STREET

One of my all time favorite photographs, many people mistake this for a painting. This heavy-handed use of HDR creates a colorful and surreal look with the reflections in the canal. This photograph is set in Burano Italy, an island just northeast of Venice. Notice that the dropcloth in the boat on the right has many of the colours of the brightly-colored buildings.

  • FLORENCE 10K

Can you guess what's going on here?

  • DUOMO ORVIETO

The photograph was taken with the HDR process which helped to bring out the details of the edifice. The Cathedral of Orvieto is a large 14th century Roman Catholic cathedral situated in the town of Orvieto in Umbria, central Italy. The building was constructed under the orders of Pope Urban IV.

  • ABANDONED BARN in HDR

A heavy-handed HDR rendition of an abandoned barn near Essex in Baltimore County, Maryland.

  • DEER VALLEY SHADOWS

This HDR image was shot in Deer Vally, Utah, on Bald Mountain, on the easy, Homeward Bound trail. This trail is good for afternoon shadow photography, as one can see.

  • SUNRISE & SILHOUETTE

This is a sunrise over the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee. The sunrise was really nice but when the birds arrived, this made my day.

  • COLWILL FARM

This photograph of the Colwill Farm on Greenspring Avenue in Lutherville Maryland is the result of my continuing effort to capture this amazing scene in the best light. HDR aided the photograph bringing out the autumn colours.

  • AGAVE-HDR

This is an HDR of a very sharp Agave plant found in the mountains of Sedona, Arizona. I may still have the scar on my leg to prove it.

  • CLASSIC SEDONA

I call this Classic Sedona because everywhere you look in Sedona, there are amazing mountains like this which are augmented by the blue skies and the shapley clouds. This is NOT an HDR.

  • BRIDGEVILLE BURNING

On the drive back fron Ocean City, Maryland, if you take the "Delaware Route" you will pass through Bridgeville. Normally not a big deal, this day had a sunset that wouldn't quit. This is NOT an HDR and the colours are quite accurate.

  • MOBIUS ARCH OVER MT WHITNEY HDR

This HDR photograph was taken in the Arizona Hills in California. Many a western was filmed in these here parts due to its close proximity to LA (where all of the stars hang out). This is called Mobus Arch and if you set up at just the right angle, you can capture Mt. Whitney beneath the arch. And I did.

  • ROAD TO DENALI

Mt. McKinley is the tallest mountain in the Northern Hemisphere. it is said to be obscured by clouds 80% of the time--1 in 5 days the top can be seen. Called Denali by the Alaskan locals, the official name was changed to McKinley in order to get the then president of the USA to provide funding for the national park. It worked.

  • MARYLAND

This photograph from the side of a barn in Monkton, I believe captures the spirit of the great state of Maryland and its rural heritage.
